Pottsgrove Cross Country Team Donates $5,500 to Cluster

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Proceeds from the 2021 edition of the annual Toss Your Turkey 5-K run, hosted each Thanksgiving Day morning for the past 11 years by the Pottsgrove Boys and Girls Cross Country Team, have again benefited those in need of a filling meal.

Team members recently gathered with Heather and Meredith Dickey, representatives of the Trinity Reformed Church Community Meal Program, to present them with a $5,500 donation to the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities. The church program operates as a unit of the cluster, which provides meals to under-served individuals and families across the greater Pottstown area.

Trinity holds a special place in team members’ hearts. They also donate time as volunteers there to help serve its program participants.

Enthusiasm among local runners, as well as some from a distance, has grown for the Toss Your Turkey run over the years. Under the direction of Larry Rechtin, Toni Crater, and Marilyn Eaton, the teams collectively have donated more than $20,000 to help support several local non-profit agencies. They include funding for Operation 143, formerly known as Operation Backpack, and the Pottstown fire police.
