Family Services Needs Help in Meals On Wheels Delivery
POTTSTON PA – The Meals on Wheels program operated by Family Services of Montgomery County needs volunteers to deliver meals to home-bound older adults in the greater Pottstown area, it said Friday (May 13, 2022).
Each weekday, the program provides two meals to an average of 130 home-bound elderly individuals in Pottstown, Royersford, and the Lower Perkiomen Valley. Community volunteers personally deliver more than 80,000 meals a year, “bringing nourishment, friendship and a kind word to those most in need,” the agency added.
Delivery volunteers meet weekdays at 10:15 a.m. at the Family Services’ office, 1976 E. High St. Delivery routes take between 60 and 90 minutes to complete. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current insurance, and their own reliable vehicle. Background and reference checks are required.
Most volunteers commit to delivering meals once a week; others volunteer on a substitute basis. Volunteers who can serve on a substitute or as-needed basis are greatly appreciated. Training is provided.
