Check Your Tap Water; Pottstown to Start Hydrant Flushing

POTTSTOWN PA – Municipal drinking water customers in Pottstown Borough, and Lower, Upper, and West Pottsgrove townships, may have the color of their water affected by the annual spring daytime flushing of fire hydrants in Pottstown, the Borough Authority said. Flushing procedures are scheduled to begin Monday (May 23, 2022) and are likely to continue for five weeks, it reported.

Flushing will be conducted weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. If water from users’ taps appears to be brown- or rust-colored, the authority recommends they “run the cold water for a few minutes until it is clear.” The borough notice was distributed to audience members attending the Thursday (May 19) meeting of the Lower Pottsgrove Board of Commissioners.

Similar flushing also is conducted during the fall, according to the borough website.

For more information or answers to questions regarding flushing, call the Pottstown Public Works Department at 610-970-6527, it added.
