Perkiomen Valley audiences can enjoy an acclaimed actress perform Saturday (June 4) in a historic Pennypacker Mills presentation on Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, as well as a June 15 (Saturday) concert by “That Band” in Schwenksville’s Meadow Park.

‘Harriet Tubman’ Visits Pennypacker Mills for Performance

SCHWENKSVILLE PA – Harriet Tubman, the most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad that helped thousands of enslaved Africans escape to freedom, will be portrayed Saturday (June 4, 2022) in a 4 p.m. “porch performance” staged, where else?, on the front porch of Montgomery County’s Pennypacker Mills historic site, 5 Haldeman Rd.

Actress Millicent Sparks plays the role of Tubman, and helps the audience discover her strong beliefs and determination. Organizers say those who attend “will be enthralled by Spark’s portrayal of this American icon.” Following her performance, Sparks also will respond in character to questions about Tubman’s life in slavery, the Underground Railroad, and the Civil War.

The show is free to attend, suitable for all ages, and open to the public. Those who attend are suggested to bring a chair to sit on outdoors. If interested, visitors also can schedule-in-advance to take a tour of Pennypacker Mills mansion, once the home of former Pennsylvania Gov. Samuel Pennypacker.

Sparks is an accomplished actor, writer, and producer who has performed on local, regional and international stages, in film, and on television. A life-long history buff, Sparks develops and produces living history performances with particular emphasis on the African-American experience.

Guests should be aware that all on-site programming will fully comply with current guidance on COVID-19 mitigation efforts, including but not limited to social distancing, appropriate wearing of face masks, and limitations of group sizes that depend upon venue.
