State Police Deal With Three Berks Alleged Offenders

READING PA – Residents of Douglassville, Barto, and Oley were cited, and two were taken into custody, following violations alleged by Pennsylvania State Police operating from the Troop L Barracks in Reading, they reported through Saturday (June 4, 2022).

Protection from abuse violation

Troopers said a 42-year-old Douglassville man was taken into custody May 31 (Tuesday) at 7 a.m. at a property on Shed Road in Union Township, Berks County, for allegedly violating a protection from abuse order filed on behalf of a 63-year-old woman, also of Douglassville. Criminal charges were prepared following his arrest, they added.

Driving under the influence

A traffic stop conducted May 26 (Thursday) at 12:37 a.m. near the intersection of Oley and Williams roads in Ruscombmanor Township, Berks County, resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old Oley man for traffic violations that included allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, troopers said.

The man, who was operating a 2008-model Toyota Yaris, “displayed multiple signs of impairment,” was taken into custody, and transported to Berks Central Processing for a legal breath test, they added. Charges against him were filed in the Oley court of Magisterial District Justice Steven M. Chieffo.

Harassment by physical contact

A 41-year-old Barto man has been charged with harassment by physical contact following a May 22 alleged domestic abuse incident at 4:50 p.m. that troopers said occurred on Sugar Maple Road in Washington Township, Berks County.

Troopers reported a woman, age 37 and also of Barto, claimed the man “shoved” her during an argument and caused her “to fall backwards out the front door and onto the ground, causing minor injury.” The man, to whom troopers talked by phone, “corroborated” the story and was subsequently charged, they said.
