Spring City Center Observes Veterans’ Homes Week

SPRING CITY PA – Residents, family members, and employees at the Southeastern Veterans’ Center in Spring City (at top), as well as the state’s five other veterans’ homes, begin Sunday (June 12, 2022) to celebrate the annual observance of State Veterans’ Homes Week, Pennsylvania’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said. The observance runs through June 18 (Saturday).

“Veterans Homes Week is dedicated to honoring our residents for their service to our nation, while recognizing family and staff for the exceptional care and support they provide every day,” department head and state Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler said.

During the week, participants can enjoy activities and entertainment that include a carnival, musical performances, barbecues and picnics, military ceremonies, and sporting events. Their costs are covered by each home’s resident welfare fund.

In addition to offering year-round recreational and leisure activities, each veterans home is tasked with providing residents with essential equipment and furnishings, on-site medical and pharmacy services, physical and occupational therapy, and 24-hour nursing care. In addition to the Spring City facility, the five others are located in Philadelphia, Scranton, Hollidaysburg, Erie, and Pittsburgh.
