Phoenixville’s Gateway Pharmacy Featured in Podcast
PHOENIXVILLE PA – Gateway Pharmacy, part of the Good Neighbor Pharmacy network and which recently was named a finalist for Good Neighbor’s “Pharmacy of the Year” competition, was the subject of a Tuesday (July 12, 2022) “Front-Line Leaders” podcast published by DrugTopics.com, a pharmacy trade website.
Podcast guest Mark Szilagyi, co-owner and pharmacist at Gateway Pharmacy, 165 Nutt Rd., talked with host Miranda Hester about the contest and Gateway’s roles in the Phoenixville area community.
Szilagyi described how the company, which was founded in the 1950s, was acquired by his father and a partner during 1982. He started in the business, he said, at age 6: pricing goods, doing occasional chores in a warehouse, and “just kind of puttering around.” During his Gateway career, he said, He’s done nearly everything “from stock boy, to pharmacy register, to pharmacy technician, and then to pharmacist, and then finally to pharmacy manager and part owner.”
He also described Phoenixville’s rise in stature and popularity during revitalization of the past 15 years. “Our population is really … wonderful because we have everybody from older people, who’ve been here for 56 years, to people who just moved here maybe 2, 3, 4 or 5 years ago. It’s a great community. People come together, and it’s a small community too, so a lot of people know everybody.”
Gateway’s staff recognizes their customers often visit the store when they’re ill or feeling uncomfortable. Szilagyi said he tries “to impart that sort of mentality of the patient, that not everybody may want to be here, coming to us. Our goal is to try to make it as easy and as pleasurable as possible.” He also praised staff members for knowing, and greeting, many of its customers by name.
Hester’s 20-minute interview with Szilagyi is available both in audio and print versions on the DrugTopics.com webpage, here.
