COLLEGEVILLE PA – Free tours of demonstration learning gardens at the Montgomery County Extension Center, conducted by the county’s master gardeners themselves, are scheduled for July 30 (Saturday) and 9:45 and 11 a.m. at the center, 1015 Bridge Rd. This year’s tours focus on the gardens’ upper sections: its entrance, foodscaping, herbs, patio, and water gardens.

Visitors can learn the focus and rationale behind each area, how plantings evolved to overcome specific challenges, and future plans, advocates said.

Master gardeners are volunteers who have been specially trained and certified by Penn State Extension. They regularly provide public education on a broad range of horticultural topics, and can advise community residents on best practices based on university research and recommendations. They also are responsible for the design, plant selection, planting, and maintenance of all the gardens.

Children are welcome. Advance registration is requested, because the space for each tour is limited. To register, send an e-mail to montgomerymg@psu.edu with the time preferred (9:45 or 11 a.m.), your name and contact information, and the number of people in your party. You can also can make reservations by phone; 610-489-4315.
