Car Stopped in Ditch After Sunday Morning Accident

EARL PA – No one was injured, but a 53-year-old Boyertown woman was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, following a one-vehicle accident Sunday (July 17, 2022) at 5:40 a.m. in the 300 block of Longview Road in Earl Township, Berks County. Pennsylvania State Police from the Troop L Barracks in Reading issued a report on the incident, which they said occurred “just south of Woodchoppertown Road.”

Before the crash, troopers reported, a 2005-model Acura RL being driven by the Boyertown woman was traveling northbound on Longview Road. The road in that area “has no shoulder,” and “there is a large ditch on the eastern edge of the roadway with a steep embankment,” they added. “The ditch and embankment contain multiple large rocks of various sizes,” troopers said.

The driver “was negotiating a left curve in the roadway,” but she “failed to maintain (the) lane of travel,” their report stated. The Acura “left the eastern side of the roadway” and “went down into the ditch, causing its front end to strike the steep embankment wall,” it added.

The car “traveled parallel to Longview Road in the ditch” for about 100 feet, and “came to a final rest at the end of the ditch” in front of a property at 311 Longview Road. The car, which was disabled at the scene, was removed by Berks-Mont Towing, it noted.

The woman, which troopers indicated was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was wearing lap and should safety belts at the time, the report stated.
