Weis Markets Reports 2nd Quarter Sales Increase

SUNBURY PA – Lowering prices on some brand-name and frozen products, and promoting the value of its private brands to customers affected by inflation, helped grocer Weis Markets increase net sales during the second quarter of 2022, the company announced Monday (Aug. 1, 2022) as it released financial results.

Weis operates stores locally in Gilbertsville, Pennsburg, and Oley.

It said net sales totaled $1.14 billion for the 13-week second quarter ended June 25, up 8.4 percent compared to $1.05 billion for the same period in 2021. Net income totaled $36.27 million, up 8.3 percent compared to $33.47 million in 2021. Second quarter earnings per share totaled $1.35, compared to $1.24 per share for the same period in 2021.

CEO Jonathan H. Weis said the company was “mindful of inflation’s impact on our customers,” and continued to promote “the value of our private brands.” In May he said it also “made a multi-million-dollar investment to expand our ‘Low, Low Price’ program, by lowering prices on hundreds of our best-selling brand-name and Weis Quality frozen products.”
