Township Considers Changed Fees on Delinquencies

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Township property owners who are delinquent in paying their real estate taxes could face changed fees and penalties imposed by Lower Pottsgrove’s collection agency, Portnoff Law Associates Ltd., as a result of recent federal legal requirements, Manager Ed Wagner told the Board of Commissioners during its July 21 meeting.

Commissioners voted to advertise their intent to adopt an ordinance that authorizes solicitor, attorney, and collection fees, and assessed interest, in amounts to be collected by Portnoff or others authorized as part of unpaid real estate taxes and municipal claims on accounts in arrears. The amount of the fees and interest are likely to vary depending on the account.

Board approval is expected during its Aug. 18 meeting at 6:30 p.m., according to the legal advertisement published Wednesday (Aug. 3).

A copy of the proposed ordinance is available for inspection Mondays through Fridays during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., from township Secretary Madison Orler at the municipal building, 2199 Buchert Rd.
