Charles Named Boyertown Area Multi-Service Director

BOYERTOWN PA – Jocelyn Charles, who earlier this year became interim executive director of the non-profit Boyertown Area Multi-Service Inc., has been promoted to executive director by its Board of Directors, the center said.

Multi-Service initially hired Charles, a Penn State graduate and a volunteer soccer coach with the JT Dorsey Foundation, during 2020 as its center director at Ricketts. She earlier held the same position for several years under a former operator.

Rickets provides athletic, educational, recreational, and wellness activities in after-school programming for Pottstown youths. Multi-Service operates it on behalf of the Borough of Pottstown, which owns the facility.

“Jocelyn is a high-character professional who will lead our organization with a steady, purposeful hand,” Board of Directors President Matthew Hovey said. He described her as “one of our organization’s hardest workers, always motivated foremost by the good she can provide to people less fortunate than her.”

Charles’ “experience leading the Ricketts Center uniquely qualifies her as someone who can bridge the Boyertown and Pottstown communities in terms of collaboration and outreach, so that Multi-Service and our partner organizations may better serve people throughout our region,” Hovey added.

“My passion for engaging with the community and aiding them in whatever way I can keeps me going. I’ve always enjoyed working with and mentoring the youth but am honored to get the chance to expand my reach, not only in other communities but in working with different generations of community members,” Charles said.

“I get to learn from them, all of them, and use that knowledge to be a better, more understanding person and professional.”
