Sportsmanship Award Again Presented to Pottsgrove

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Pottsgrove High and Middle schools were announced Wednesday (Sept. 14, 2022) as 2021-2022 recipients of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Sportsmanship Award for the Pioneer Athletic Conference. The presentation marks the seventh time in the past eight years that the high school was named as a league winner of the honor.

Pottsgrove is one of 12 member school districts in the conference. Only one school from each league is selected by coaches to receive the award.

Sportsmanship Award Again Presented to Pottsgrove

Director of Athletics Steve Anspach, and middle school Athletic Director Martin Schreiber, were given the award during the PIAA District 1 annual fall meeting at Montgomery County Community College. Anspach credited the win to “our coaches, athletic staff, parents, and most importantly, our student-athletes. We are a class act, and we treat everyone with respect when they come to the ‘Grove.”

Students agreed.

Receiving this award says student-athletes “all hold the same level of responsibility, and we are seen by others to be role models, so we act accordingly,” Pottsgrove senior Sidney Coxe said. Coxe said he believes receiving the award year after year has positively shaped how student-athletes think of themselves.

“Our student-athletes treat everyone equally and with respect on and off the field,” senior Mark White added.
