VALLEY FORGE PA – A special tribute in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, and prayers for the accession of Britain’s new monarch, King Charles III, have been scheduled by Washington Memorial Chapel and the British Officers Club Of Philadelphia for Monday (Sept. 19, 2022) at 11:30 a.m. at the historic chapel within Valley Forge National Historical Park, on Route 23.

The event is free to attend and open to the public, it announced.

Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, Bishop Daniel Daniel George Policarpio Gutiérrez, will join chapel rector the Rev. Tommy Thompson as officiants for the special 1662 Book of Common Prayer service known as “Evensong.” The Book of Common Prayer is the official prayer book of the Church Of England.

Immediately following the service, a traditional English afternoon tea reception will be held in Queen Elizabeth II’s honor at the chapel.

Gutiérrez is the 16th and current bishop of the diocese, the second oldest and fourth largest in the country. He was elected and consecrated in 2016, and previously served as Canon to the Ordinary in the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande.

The British Officers’ Club was founded in 1919 to support and maintain the special relationship between the British Commonwealth and American people. The club supports several U.S. and United Kingdom military and civilian charities, and veterans’ organizations.
