LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Former Lower Pottsgrove Board of Commissioners‘ President Bruce Foltz knew in advance he would be honored Thursday (Sept. 22, 2022) by his colleagues and the public during the board’s meeting at Sunnybrook Ballroom. He might have imagined it to be an affair like others over which he personally presided during many of the past 26 years: a smile, a handshake and thanks, a photo, and head for home.

Foltz, though, has a large family (above), and many friendships created during decades of public service. Fellow commissioners and township Manager Ed Wagner wanted to ensure the man knew just how much his efforts were appreciated. So, Wagner explained earlier, they quietly conspired with family members and others for a surprise of sorts.

The Foltz send-off included a far-larger-than-average board meeting audience, requiring the gathering’s planned move to the North Sunnybrook Road facility instead of relying on cramped quarters at the township municipal building. It included an engraved award (at left), a letter from state officials recognizing his accomplishments, comments and personal congratulations from state Rep. Joe Ciresi (at top), the praise of local dignitaries and, yes, smiles, handshakes, thanks, and photos.

The Foltz family was there in force, happy for and proud of the man they call husband, dad, and grandfather.

Foltz resigned from the board in July, after he and his wife Patricia sold their Lower Pottsgrove home of 50 years and moved out of the township. They’ve down-sized, he said; they have plans to travel more than they already do, and relax. He’ll miss being part of the township’s day-to-day business affairs, Foltz acknowledged when announcing his departure from the board, but added he’s looking forward to what’s next.
