Local Firefighters Win Water Company Grants

MECHANICSBURG PA – More than 140 fire companies and departments across Pennsylvania, including 19 that cover Montgomery, Berks, and Chester counties, are receiving a total of $71,000 in firefighting support grants awarded by Mechanicsburg-based Pennsylvania American Water, the company said Monday (Oct. 10, 2022). The awards coincide with the 100th anniversary of National Fire Prevention Week.

Awarded $500 each were:

  • In Montgomery County, the Sanatoga Fire Company, Limerick Fire Department, Royersford Fire Department, Trappe Fire Company No. 1, Black Rock Volunteer Fire Company in Oaks, Worcester Volunteer Fire Department, and seven others;
  • In Berks County, the Amity Fire Company, and two others; and
  • In Chester County, three others.

Since launching the grant program in 2009, Pennsylvania American has donated more than $850,000 to hundreds of fire companies, departments and emergency service providers. “Together, water systems and fire departments deliver community fire protection, and we are proud to support the men and women who serve our local fire departments,” Pennsylvania American Water President Mike Doran said.

Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing water and wastewater services to approximately 2.4 million people.
