Michigan Man Jailed 25 Years in Limerick Sex Assault

PHILADELPHIA PA – A Michigan man, who was arrested more than two years ago on charges of child pornography and the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in a Limerick Township hotel, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release.

The Philadelphia-based U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced the sentencing of Mark Allen Hillis, 58, of Southgate MI, on Friday (Nov. 18, 2022), after he was convicted of more than a dozen child exploitation offenses. He is scheduled to remain behind bars until 2047, when he is age 83.

Hillis last year pleaded guilty to all charges in a 14-count indictment that arose from his sexual exploitation of a then-13-year-old girl over the internet and by text messages over several months. He convinced her “to meet up with him for sex” in Pennsylvania, and sexually assaulted her in the Limerick hotel room, the statement from United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero explained.

“Hillis not only manipulated a young child into providing him with explicit images of herself, he brazenly traveled across state lines, convinced her to leave her home, and assaulted her – every parent’s worst nightmare,” Romero said. The sentence imposed by District Court Judge Eduardo C. Robreno ensures Hillis remains “safely behind bars, unable to prey on other children, for a long time,” she added.

Limerick police were specifically praised in Friday’s announcement for their efforts in the case.

“I want to give special thanks to the Limerick Police Department for initiating this investigation and following it through to the end,” Special Agent-in-Charge William Walker, of the Philadelphia office of Homeland Security Investigations, said. “Only through cohesive partnerships between federal, state, and local law enforcement can investigations and prosecutions like this one be achieved.”

Also involved in the investigation were the Montgomery County Detective Bureau, the county District Attorney’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, and Homeland Security Investigations.
