POTTSTOWN PA – The holiday spirit is taking over the Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St., with both the staging of a traditional holiday favorite – “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” – and the launch of a toy donation drive to help make Christmas more wonderful for Pottstown area children.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” tells the story of beleaguered building and loan owner George Bailey and his affable helper angel, Clarence, which unfolds one fateful Christmas Eve with actors and live sound effects. Its Dec. 2 opening night is sponsored by The Hill School and Hobart’s Run. The show runs through Dec. 18, with the production sponsored by Turtle Creek Golf Course.

This season’s sponsor is The Scott and Susan Bentley Fund.

Tickets are available online, here, or by calling the box office at 610-970-1199. Tickets cost $29 for adults, $24 for Seniors age 65 and older, and $17 for students.

Throughout the run of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Steel River will collect toys to be donated to area families. “We are so grateful for all that Pottstown has done, and continues to do, for the theater,” Marketing Manager Amanda Morrell explained, “and we try our best to be an active participant in this vibrant, neighborly, dedicated community.” The playhouse wants to give back “to the community that so lovingly embraces the arts and live theater,” she said.

During the theater’s production this fall of “Little Shop of Horrors,” it also collected food items during a “Feed Me Food Drive.” Its patrons donated two full carts of non-perishable food items that were immediately re-distributed “to help feed Pottstown,” Morrell reported.
