Roses Discount Store to ‘Officially’ Open in NorCo
NORTH COVENTRY PA – North Carolina-based Variety Wholesalers Inc., a family-owned company that operates Roses Discount Stores and six other regionally known retailers at about 400 locations across the eastern and southeastern U.S., is expected to officially open a Roses-brand site during early December inside the former Sears space at The Shops at Coventry, 351 W. Schuylkill Rd.
Unofficially, the store has already unlocked its doors in a Nov. 23 (2022; Wednesday) “soft opening” without public fanfare. It unfurled a sign proclaiming “We’re Open” (at top) just below its building logo. Workers there had spent much of September and October fitting out the interior, and received merchandise and stocked shelves over the past few weeks (above and below).
Earlier, the “open” sign was preceded by one that shouted “We’re hiring.” It’s unknown how many the North Coventry location expects to employ.
The company’s Facebook page defines Roses Discount Stores as “offering great, quality items at low prices, without the need for constant couponing and chasing down clearance sales.” The company has “built a reputation for sincerely knowing its customer(s)” and ensuring “overall customer service that makes them feel at home, in their neighborhood.” New products are introduced regularly, it added.
Variety Wholesalers was founded in 1949, according to its profile on the Dun & Bradstreet website. The firm “has aggressively bought other chains while closing poorly performing stores, (and) tends to set up shop in small towns where the retail giants fear to tread,” according to its statement.
