Pennsburg Man Arrested on Child Pornography Counts
NORRISTOWN PA – A 24-year-old Bayberry Lane, Pennsburg man has been arrested for alleged possession of child pornography, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced Friday (Dec. 2, 2022), following an investigation that began seven months ago.
John Mulgrew faces 175 felony counts of possessing child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communications facility, Steele said.
An examination of Mulgrew’s cell phone by members of the county Detectives Bureau found 25 video files of pre-pubescent boys and girls engaged in sexual acts or in the simulation of sexual acts. Additional video files allegedly involved adolescents in various sexual poses and activities.
The detectives’ investigation began in late May, after they received a tip on child pornography video uploads from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. They traced the Internet origin of the uploads to Mulgrew’s home, and to the location of his employer, they said. During mid-August they served a search warrant on the home and seized several computers and the cell phone.
Mulgrew was arrested Tuesday (Nov. 29), and was released on unsecured bail of $200,000 following arraignment. He is scheduled for a Dec. 12 preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Maureen Coggins.
