Arboretum Offers to Recycle Holiday Trees in January

UPPER POTTSGROVE PA – A drive-through and drop-off event to recycle no-longer-wanted Christmas trees will be held Jan. 8-9 (2023; Saturday and Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd. The tree disposal effort is free, but cash donations will be appreciated.

Here’s where the recycling comes in: the Upper Pottsgrove Public Works Department has agreed to chop the trees into chips that will be used to cover the arboretum trail system in the spring. Both the department and student volunteers of GreenAllies, the organization that operates the arboretum under an agreement with the township, are its partners in the event.

For a $10-per-tree donation, GreenAllies representatives will even travel to local homes or businesses and pick up trees for recycling.

For more information, call 267-371-2288, or send an e-mail to ken@green-allies.org.
