Steel River Plans Auditions for Young Performers
POTTSTOWN, PA – Several opportunities will arise during the next few months for young performers interested in auditioning for roles in productions planned by Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St. Auditions for the play “I and You” will be held at the end of January, and auditions for the playhouse summer intensive program, ending with a performance of “Seussical,” will occur in April.
“For I and You” Director Leena Devlin is looking for two strong actors of any gender, race, or body type that appear to be between the ages of 17 and 20. Auditions will be held Jan. 25 and 26 (2023; Wednesday and Thursday), with callbacks by invitation on Jan. 28 (Saturday). Performances are scheduled for the weekends of April 21 and 28.
The audition will consist of a 1- to 2-minute comedic or dramatic monologue. Callbacks will be readings from the script.
According to its description, “the play takes place one afternoon when Anthony arrives unexpectedly at classmate Caroline’s door, bearing a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, an urgent assignment from their English teacher.”
“Homebound due to illness, Caroline hasn’t been to school in months, but she is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic, sensitive, and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly mundane poetry project unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together.”
This year’s summer intensive program includes instruction in acting, dance and singing, culminating in a performance of “Seussical,” a musical comedy by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the many children’s stories of Dr. Seuss. Auditions will be held April 24 and 26 (Monday and Wednesday), with callbacks April 29 (Saturday). Performances are scheduled for the weekends of Aug. 11 and Aug. 18.
In addition to these shows, there are opportunities for a spring workshop culminating in a performance of “Dear Edwina Jr.,” and summer camps culminating in performances of “Disney’s High School Musical Jr.” and “Elf The Musical Jr.”
