Car Flips Into Woods During Route 422 West Accident
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – A two-car accident that occurred Thursday (Jan. 19, 2023) shortly after 11:30 a.m. on westbound U.S. Route 422, between Evergreen and South Park roads in Lower Pottsgrove, resulted in injuries to at least one driver and required both vehicles to be towed. Weather-related slick road conditions were mentioned by township police as a possible factor.
Police said both cars- a light-colored Chevrolet (at top) and gray-colored Toyota (above) – were headed west on the highway when one of them “fishtailed” and collided with the other.
The impact sent the Chevrolet against and atop the road’s north-side guard rail. The car slid on it for a short distance, and then “bunny-hopped” the rail and landed upright in a wooded area just beyond the shoulder, according to police. It endured significant front-end damage.
The Toyota came to rest farther west on the left side of the lanes, near the center median guard rail. The Toyota was damaged on its right front side.
The Chevrolet’s driver was rescued from his vehicle, placed on a stretcher (above), and wheeled to a Goodwill ambulance nearby. Emergency medical services personnel began treatment at the scene, and at 12:14 p.m. transported him to a nearby facility. The condition and status of the second driver was not immediately available.
Volunteers from the Sanatoga and Ringing Hill fire companies, their fire police units, four Lower Pottsgrove police vehicles, and two Goodwill ambulances all arrived at the scene. Fire police (above) set up barriers to reduce traffic to a single lane through the accident area, first on the left side around the Chevrolet and then on the right side past the Toyota.
For the second time in three days, the accident required a crane-equipped truck from Hawk’s Towing in Gilbertsville (above) for a Route 422 vehicle removal; the first involved a dump truck that on Tuesday (Jan. 17) tumbled over a bridge and into a ravine.
