State Tax Refund Gifts Encouraged to Assist Veterans

ANNVILLE PA – Pennsylvanians filing 2022 personal state income taxes can help the state’s military personnel, veterans, and their families by donating any amount of a tax refund to either or both of two special funds: the Military Family Relief Assistance Program, and the Veterans’ Trust Fund. Both are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

Veterans Affairs’ acting adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler, on Monday (Feb. 6, 2023) said “members of our armed forces, veterans, and their families,” particularly those who have fallen on hard times, “greatly appreciated” the generosity of Pennsylvanians’ support.

The 2022 Pennsylvania Personal Income Tax instruction booklet offers full directions on how to donate. Donations also can be made online.

The Military Family Relief Assistance Program provides financial assistance to those with a direct and immediate financial need as a result of circumstances beyond their control. The Veterans’ Trust Fund issues grants to statewide charitable organizations that assist veterans, veterans service organizations, and county directors of veterans affairs. It also assists veterans in need of shelter and necessities of living.
