Downed Line Ends Power to Schaffer Road Homes

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – A power line brought down Tuesday (March 14, 2023) shortly after 5:30 p.m., by a wind-toppled tree (at top) on the south side of the 2600 block of Schaffer Road, disrupted electrical service to several neighboring homes, according to Montgomery County emergency dispatchers.

Sanatoga Fire Company volunteers at the scene (above) said the sparking wire had caused a small smoky fire. It burned at the utility pole, where it was suspended above the banks of nearby Sanatoga Creek as its water flowed east toward the Pruss Hill Road dam.

After inspecting the situation, firefighters said they would await a crew from energy provider Metropolitan Edison to cut power to the line. That would allow them to remove the tree as a hazard, extinguish the fire, and enable Met-Ed to restore service.

Traffic on Schaffer Road was reduced to a single lane while firefighters worked. One car carried property owners from Pruss Hill Road, who followed the fire company’s lights to learn what had caused their power to go out.
