Friday Afternoon Accident Closes Part of Swamp Pike

NEW HANOVER PA – A motor vehicle collision Friday (March 17, 2023) at 3:31 p.m. on Swamp Pike, east of its intersection with North Charlotte Street, prompted Montgomery County emergency dispatchers to summon first-responders from New Hanover Fire and Rescue, Gilbertsville Area Community Ambulance, and New Hanover police units.
Police officers were collecting information at the scene, and a report on the accident cause or the extent of injuries, if any, was not immediately available.
Two vehicles on the highway, a Toyota Rav 4 and a Subaru Legacy, were substantially damaged and removed by a tow truck. The Subaru (at top) sustained damage to its front-end; and the Toyota (above), to its passenger side and front.
A portion of Swamp Pike between North Charlotte Street and Lutheran Road was closed to traffic in both directions during the incident, causing backups at the intersection. New Hanover Fire Police diverted drivers in alternate directions. Firefighters helped clean debris from the highway and sweep up absorbent material after it was used to soak up leaking fluids.
Douglass (Montgomery) Township police also assisted at the scene.
