GETTYSBURG PA – Hundreds of members of the American Battlefield Trust, a non-profit organization that has protected more than 56,000 acres associated with the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War across 25 states, said Friday (May 8, 2023) its 2024 annual conference has been scheduled in Gettysburg.
The group’s membership includes historians and re-enactors from Montgomery, Berks and Chester counties.
The conference, set for April 25–28, 2024, will feature tours, talks, and special gatherings intended to showcase both the battlefield and the community that surrounds it. “More than half our membership tell us that Gettysburg is their favorite battlefield to visit,” trust President David Duncan said.
During the past 20 years, the trust said it has preserved nearly 1,240 acres associated with all three days of the Battle of Gettysburg. Its members have invested millions of dollars in land acquisition, landscape restoration, and the development of groundbreaking interpretive technologies to bring the battlefield to life, the trust added.
Advance registration for next year’s conference is now available online. The trust reported it is already working with local businesses and vendors to help provide lodging, transportation, food, and other necessities.
