BOYERTOWN PA – An inaugural history event titled “Boyertown Heritage Day: Illuminating the Past,” planned by Building a Better Boyertown and scheduled for May 20 (2023; Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., intends to “highlight Boyertown’s rich history” by attracting visitors to its museums and other borough places of interest.
The event is free to attend, open to the public, and no registration is required.
Participants will explore true local historical events as “detectives” who collect information from multiple stops within a short walking distance around town. Using a journal and an included map, they’ll record discoveries to solve a “Case of the Mysterious Woman.” Journal packets will be available at the 129 S. Reading Ave. parking lot of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles.
At each location, including the Boyertown Area Historical Society and the State Theatre, a period re-enactor will meet with visitors to provide information relating to the mystery. They will also share real historic articles and artifacts of the time. Those who collect all clues and believe they have solved the mystery can return to the Explorer’s Tent and be entered to win a prize.
“This is a fun opportunity to get a taste of all the experiences Boyertown has to offer,” Historical Society President Rachael Kehler said. “While collecting the clues, participants see a showcase of our unique museums and attractions that they can come back to visit and explore in more depth.”
All participating locations are connected, as clues to solve the mystery and as partners in a network of historic preservation. “Each organization gets to celebrate their own part in our heritage,” Building a Better Boyertown Secretary Theresa Heist explained. “The mystery is a true story. Connecting how each location played a role helps dig a little deeper into the daily life of our past.”
Building a Better Boyertown is a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve Boyertown’s artistic, historical, and agricultural heritage.
