Travel between proposed tolling points on U.S. Route 422 would continue to be free for local commuters, if the plan ever gets approved, a regional official told planners Wednesday in Pottstown.

Two Republican candidates running to become Montgomery County commissioners, Bruce Castor and Jenny Brown, on Wednesday said they oppose tolling on U.S. Route 422.
The state representative whose district covers Pottstown, Lower Pottsgrove, and Limerick wondered if funds to be "dedicated" to U.S. Route 422 wouldn't some day find their way to other projects.
Proponents of a plan to establish electronic tolls on U.S. Route 422, through Limerick, Lower Pottsgrove and Pottstown, appeared to make headway Monday with a 42-member state commission.
Pottstown wants to attract more business to its tax base. So does neighboring Lower Pottsgrove Township, and other municipalities. A new study could determine how, if at all, every entity can win.
A special commission appointed by Gov. Corbett to explore transportation funding options reportedly will see a presentation June 6 that promotes tolling on U.S. Route 422 as a model to be used statewide.
It will have taken more than a year before the work is finished, but construction has begun on a replacement for the already removed High Street bridge over Manatawny Creek.
Montgomery County Community College won an award Wednesday for what the Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association called its environmental leadership.
