HARRISBURG PA – All Pennsylvania veterans who have incurred a disability, whether permanent or not, would qualify for free fishing licenses under legislation proposed by 24th District state Sen. Tracy Pennycuick.
Currently, free lifetime licenses are available only to veterans who qualify as permanently disabled, and on a annual basis for other disabled veterans. Pennycuick aims to simply the application process and eliminate paperwork for both. Her suggestion won unanimous approval Wednesday (May 3) from the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee, and now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
Senate Bill 411 of 2023 would remove the annual fee and application requirements, and allow all disabled veterans with a full disability determination – whether permanent or not – to qualify for free lifetime licenses. It also allows a National Guard or reservist member to qualify for a reduced-fee license.
