POTTSTOWN PA – “Be careful what you wish for.”
That may be sage advice at any time, but it’s particularly true for the characters of “Into The Woods,” a musical that adapts several fairy tales by The Brothers Grimm into fascination for anyone age 8 and older. It is being presented on dates from May 26 (Friday) through June 11 (Sunday) at Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St.
Tickets are available for online purchase now at $29 for adults, $24 for seniors age 65 and older, and $17 for students; or call the theater box office at 610-970-1199.
For the close of its 2022-2023 season, Steel River welcomes back original Artistic Director Deborah Stimson-Snow. She will direct this production, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine.
It intertwines several Grimm plots. A baker and his wife, who wish to have a child but can’t due to a witch’s curse, set off on a journey to break the spell. Along the way they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, and assorted other princes, parents, and even animals. The characters discover their wishes may not turn out the way they envisioned.
The theater suggests patrons “check the schedule carefully” in choosing performance times. Performances will open at 7 p.m. on May 26 and 27, and June 2, 4, 9, and 10. Matinées will be at 2 p.m. on May 28, June 10 and 11. Additional matinées are scheduled for 12 p.m. June 3 and at 1 p.m. on June 4, specifically to give the audience more options with other local events on those days. The running time for this two act show is about 2 hours and 45 minutes, with one intermission.
The 2022-2023 season sponsor is The Scott & Susan Bentley Fund. Opening night is sponsored by Ferreri Enterprises LLC.
