Judges Nick and Stacy celebrate with Lego Master Jr. champion Ava Mauger of Limerick

LIMERICK PA – Limerick resident and Lego toys builder Ava Mauger created a ship April 1 (2023; Saturday) that she sailed to a first-place win during a contest live-streamed from the LegoLand theme park and resort hotel in Goshen NY.

Mauger, who earlier was among Lego fanatics featured on the “Lego Masters” television show on the Fox TV network, was one of five contestants chosen to compete in its first “Lego Jr. Master Builder Competition,” held at the park in New York’s Hudson Valley. Season Three Lego Master winners Nick and Stacy (above) were the judges they needed to impress during the contest, labeled as “A Boatload of Awesome.”

The challenge faced by Mauger and her fellow contestants was to build a ship on a base supplied by LegoLand, and in it feature an also-supplied miniature figure. They additionally needed to create, and present, a background story about the boat and its character’s journey to LegoLand. To win, they needed to excel in four categories: story, creativity, originality, and technique.

They had only an hour to do it all.

Ava was in top form, her mother Erin proudly told The Post on Thursday (April 6). She was encouraged and supported by a large audience that included several Lego Masters builders, her mother added. “What an exciting day for her!,” Erin said.

Ava won the competition, received a giant trophy (above at right, and made – of course! – of Legos), enjoyed time in the park and the area, and learned her creation would become a permanent part of the park’s exhibit.
