LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Fast thinking, quick action, and a few choice cuss words by individuals who remain nameless helped Lower Pottsgrove avoid major property damage last December. A fire sprinkler pipe broke in the conference room of the township municipal building on Buchert Road, soaking everything inside and creating a minor flood.
It could have been major, members of the township Board of Commissioners reported Monday (May 1, 2023), had it not been for police officers who turned off the water, fire company volunteers who brought pumps and vacuums, and others who pitched in to make a bad situation better.
So commissioner and board President Ray Lopez, and commissioner and board Police and Fire Department Committee member Robert Mohollen distributed letters of commendation during the start of Monday’s board meeting to all involved. They were awarded to:

From the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department (above), Sgt. Tim Walters, Ofc. Kevin Black, Ofc. David McKechnie, and Ofc. Christopher DiPiano;

From the township staff, Director of Public Utilities John Fogel;

From the Sanatoga Fire Company, Eric Linsenbigler, Tyler Pennypacker, James Krieger and Ricky Lewski; and

From the Ringing Hill Company, Greg Delp, Brian Weil, Douglas Hawkins, Justin Hawkins, Todd Krock, Bill Poston, Brett Rhoads, Michael Rightnour, Robert Romig, Chick Schaffer, and Marc Zohe.
As township emergency management coordinator, Lopez (above at left) has seen his share of disasters. “We could have had a disaster here, but we didn’t,” he said.
The board purposely waited until the May meeting to ensure all conference room and other repairs (at top) were completed. The township’s building insurance covered the cost of replacing carpeting, wall coverings, and other items, Manager Ed Wagner added.
