ST. PAUL MN – Green Lane’s Darragh Martin scored two goals during the fourth-period of the Friday (April 21, 2023) women’s water polo match between Penn State-Behrend and Carthage, in the opening game of the 2023 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championships. They’re being held this weekend at Macalester College in St. Paul.
Despite the efforts of Upper Perkiomen High graduate Martin and those of her team mates, Penn State dropped a one-goal decision to the Carthage Firebirds, falling 9-8. Carthage starting goalie Ella Selman made the game-winning save on the Lions’ final shot, with one second remaining in the contest.
Carthage outscored the Lions 5-0 in the first quarter. The Lions then returned in the fourth with five straight goals and held the Firebirds scoreless.
To date this year, Penn State Behrend’s record is 2-18, and Carthage, 5-14.
