ROYERSFORD PA – A Spring-Ford Area High School senior has been named to receive a Pfizer Inc. scholarship through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), as part of the non-profit’s first group of winners during 2023, its 68th year.
Samyan S. Nakkella of Collegeville, who likely will major in computer science, won the scholarship that recognizes “the outstanding students of Pfizer colleagues’ children,” the NMSC said.
Nakkella was among about “840 distinguished high school seniors (who) won National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 107 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.” Pfizer Inc., which operates facilities in Collegeville, is a research-based, global biopharmaceutical research and development company.
Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition, and who met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. By the conclusion of the 2023 competition, more than 7,140 finalists will have been selected to receive National Merit Scholarships totaling nearly $28 million.
NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 to conduct the National Merit Scholarship Program.
