POTTSTOWN PA – A community coffee, a parents night-out event, a display of historic quilts, and a post-Valentine’s Day “Sweetheart Saturday” fund-raiser are being promoted as upcoming local events of fun and interest by the Pottstown Area Regional Recreational Committee in its latest newsletter, distributed Friday (Jan. 20, 2023) by e-mail.
On its calendar are:
A free “Community Coffee” (or tea, if you prefer, or even hot chocolate!) event is set for Feb. 4 (Saturday) beginning at 10 a.m. in the farmhouse at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd., Upper Pottsgrove. “Come take a look at what’s coming up this year at the arboretum, and opportunities for community members and their families to become involved,” it suggested. “Ask questions, suggest classes and activities, and learn ways to make a contribution to our community by becoming a volunteer,” it added.
Need (or want) a break, parents? Althouse also scheduled a “Parents Night Out” for Feb. 10 (Friday) from 5-9 p.m. for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Parents looking for a quiet night out by themselves can “drop off the kids” at the arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd., so they can enjoy a supervised evening “of fun with games, an evening hike (at top), and snacks.” The service is limited to a maximum of 15 children, and is priced at $18 for the first child and $12 each for siblings. Members’ children are admitted for $10. Registration is available online.
“Historic Quilts with Ellen Endslow,” planned for Feb. 11 (Saturday) beginning at 1 p.m. in Pottsgrove Manor, 100 W. King St. Endslow, director of collections at the Chester County History Center in West Chester, will discuss its more than 175-piece collection. It represents part of the southeastern Pennsylvania quilting heritage, and dates from the late 1700s to early 1900s. She also will share discoveries from the Chester County Quilt Documentation Project, which captured images and information on more than 1,000 quilts in the region. Both experienced quilters and those just curious about the art form are likely to enjoy the session. No registration is required; a $2 donation is suggested.
“Sweetheart Saturday,” scheduled for Feb. 18 (Saturday, of course) at the Carousel at Pottstown, 30 W. King St. “Celebrate with your sweetheart on the Saturday after Valentine’s Day,” the carousel urged, “with drinks, dinner, raffles, and a carousel derby horse race.” Attendance is limited; order tickets online. The event supports the Pottstown FARM and the Carousel at Pottstown.
