BOYERTOWN PA – “The Edible Woman,” an art exhibit that focuses on food and was inspired by the Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, opened Friday (April 28, 2023) at the Studio B Fine Art Gallery, 39A E. Philadelphia Ave., and continues through June 18 (Sunday). The show is open to the public during regular gallery hours and is free to attend.
A virtual tour also is available.
Studio B’s gallery director Susan Biebuyck, and Kristen T. Woodward, professor and department chair at Albright College, decided to co-curate the exhibit together because they share a love of food and describe themselves as “foodie-friends in art.” Atwood’s work highlights empowerment in women, they added.
More than a dozen women artists were invited to participate. Exhibiting are Biebuyck, Woodward, Alyssa Cuesta, Jane deGruchy, Pam Dent, Crystal Domino, Susan Duby, Suzanne Fellows, Amy Forsyth, Shannon Fugate, Laura Gelsomini, Yenna Hill, Angela Izzo, Karen Palcho, and Linda Rohrbach-Austerberry. Artists will be featured during episodes of the gallery’s “B Inspired” podcast, hosted by Jane Stahl.
Their works, all related to food, represent a variety of artistic genre including watercolor, acrylic, oil, encaustic, jewelry, printmaking, and ceramics.
Studio B is the home of the Arts and Activities Alliance, a committee of the non-profit Building a Better Boyertown program. It showcases the work of fine artists in themed exhibits, some juried and some open to all, and welcomes art in diverse media.
