Two separate grants from Constellation Energy were delivered Wednesday to Pottstown High School students as they toured the Limerick Generating Station, and learned about its engineering and technology.
Constellation Energy, which owns Limerick Generating Station and five other nuclear power plants in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, ran them at 99-percent capacity during the summer months, it said.
Sites in Pottstown, Boyertown, and Kimberton are planned for a Sept. 15 local distribution of potassium iodide tablets that would protect the thyroid gland in a nuclear emergency. No appointments are necessary.
Pottstown High School graduate Nada Elgendy, a 2022 Constellation Energy STEM Scholarship Program winner, was invited with high school officials to tour the company's Limerick Generating Station and learn about its engineering.
Constellation Energy has finished its periodic refueling work for the nuclear reactors at Limerick Generating Station on Sanatoga Road, it said, and also completed an equipment inspection.
A split of Exelon Corp. resulted Wednesday in a new company. Constellation Energy Corp. now officially owns the Limerick Generating Station and other formerly Exelon energy-producing sites.
