March 12 is Pennsylvania’s 342nd birthday, also known as “Charter Day,” when William Penn received a charter to its land from King Charles II. Four historic sites in Berks, Montgomery, and Chester counties will open at no cost.
More than $161,000 was awarded Wednesday to historical properties and organizations in Montgomery, Berks, and Chester counties under two different grants offered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
Daniel Boone Homestead in Birdsboro is among four regional historic sites that will be open to free public visits on Saturday, sponsored as "Pennsylvania Trails of History" Day by the state's official historic agency.
Colebrookdale Railroad, the John James Audubon Center, and the Schwenkfelder Heritage Center are among Wednesday's winners of specialized grant funding from Pennsylvania's Historical and Museum Commission.
