MOUNT HOLLY NJ – Residents across Montgomery, Berks and Chester counties should be prepared for a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to make travel difficult and possibly dangerous beginning Thursday (Dec. 15, 2022) at about 5 a.m., the National Weather Service warned in two separate winter weather advisories.
Conditions in Berks County (see below) will last longer and potentially could be more severe, it added.
Overall, commuters will want to be ready for slippery road conditions that are likely to affect their morning travel.
In Montgomery and Chester counties
In the two-county region the advisory covers a 7-hour period Thursday, scheduled to end at noon, with the wintry mix moving into the area from west to east. It will bring total snow accumulations of up to one inch, and ice accumulations of up to several hundredths of an inch, the weather service predicted. “An eventual change to rain will occur from south to north by Thursday afternoon,” it added.
The advisory singled out the boroughs of Pottstown and Collegeville as among areas that could be significantly affected. It urged drivers to “slow down and use caution while traveling.”
In Berks County
The weather service advisory for eastern Berks zip codes extends through Thursday until 7 p.m., creating hazardous conditions that it said “could impact the morning or evening commute(s).”
It predicted “total snow accumulations of up to two inches, and ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch.” Winds may gust as high as 35 miles per hour. The pattern will similarly move from west to east Thursday morning, but with prolonged effect, according to the weather service. Its “eventual change to rain occurs from south to north by the late afternoon into the evening.”
Slippery road conditions again pose a threat, and the weather service repeated its message for Berks drivers: “slow down and use caution while traveling.”
